Peter - Thank you. Yes, I do indeed know Jack Schitt. And btw, September 11th was a terrorist attack on America. Katrina was a natural disaster, predicted in both the short term and the long term. So how can they be the same?

You people know jack shit. The mayor did all he could to get these people out. You sit out in your comfy homes trying to make this into some pressing conservative issue. The mayor NEVER left New Orleans...not for a minute. Talk all you want you worthless pundits...you have no clue.

Thanks Ned for your agreement. This country is deteriorating and change is coming. When citizens of this country expect the government to do everything for them and they do nothing in return to take care of themselves, we have a problem. I was surprised how anarchy appeared so quickly, where people took on the mentality that they would not work together for a common goal of survival, but only cared about themselves. The complainers now blaming the Feds, can only look at themselves for the problems that occurred after the storm. The lack of individual preparation, the lack of those able to evacuate and not leaving when they were warned, the list can go on and on. It is always easy to blame others when they should only look at themselves in a mirror to see the real problem of the situation.

I agree George. The mayor of any city in America should be an expert on that city, not the president of the country. The US Constitution lays out the responsibilities of the president, and nowhere does it say that he must provide porta-potties, bottle water and cots whenever a city is threatened. What are mayors and city governments for, anyway? As for the Louisiana governor, she told everyone that she needed 24 hours to think things through, even though lives were in jeopardy. That is not a leader.

From what I have seen, it looks like those in charge at the local and state governments were incompetent when it came to this emergency. Why didn't the Mayor have people evacuated ahead of time, where were the buses when it came time to move those individuals that couldn't transport themselves (ahead of the hurricane)? Why didn't state government assist the city of New Orleans in evacuating, why wasn't the National Guard ahead of time? Why didn't the local and state governments work on the levees? If they expected the pumps to fail, why weren't they repaired? Why is it always the Feds responsiblity? It's obvious that reporters and others don't understand the logistics of moving help in. The people were warned that they would be on their own for a few days. The lack of leadership on the parts of the Mayor and Governor led to the disorganization in rescue. I believe it was the Mayor of Hattiesberg who said Mayors aren't trained to deal with this. I look at it this way, they wanted the job, and have to expect such situations to deal with problems and should have took it upon themselves to get training, disaster preparedness plans were in place, why weren't they followed? The Mayor of NY took control on 911, the Mayor of New Orleans did not.

The saddest thing, Ruth, is that so many lives could have been saved if the City of New Orleans had provided transportation and housing for those people who wanted to leave, but had not the financial resources. So many of the inner city folks were awaiting their government checks, due the first of the month, when the hurricane and floods hit, therefore were too short on funds to travel.

It is obvious the Mayor of New Orleans did nothing to help his people to leave N O before the hurricane hit. Now he is blaming everyone else and the News People thrive on anything negative to our Federal government and especially to Pres. George Bush. You have humiliated America by your one sided news. I didn't see any newsperson giving anyone help, food or water. Yet the rest of the country and especially here in Ohio we were writing checks to the Red Cross, filling semi's with medicine, food and water and readying our firemen, policemen and volunteers to help. I hope the American people see through the repeated pictures of one area and realize most people were trying to help themselves not wait for Fema or any other Federal Agency to help them. No one was prepared for this, but the Mayor of N O certainly neglected his duties.
