Here we go - back to the past.
What did he (John Roberts) know and when did he know it? Diggers haven’t been able to pin anything on him as of yet. However, there is one oddity which causes the suspicious to wonder just how much young John Roberts knew about the Reagan Iran-contra Scandal.
John Roberts left the Reagan White House only six months before public disclosure of the Iran-contra erupted. That was in May 1986. Why did he leave? Defenders are claiming that his departure was not at all unusual, as lawyers come and go in government service. What is somewhat odd in Roberts’ case is that between January and June 1986 the entire seven member team of lawyers at the White House counsel’s office left.
There has to be something here - let’s dig some more and see what we can come up with, as if he even had an inkling of the Iran-Contra scandal, he would have to be guilty of something or other. But how could he have not known about it, as he was advising the president and the White House.
As early as January 1985, Roberts was asked to give a legal opinion about White House involvement in private fundraising to help the contra forces fighting Nicaragua’s Sandinista government. He also wrote several memos in early 1986 concerning the private fundraising activities of individuals who were later prosecuted in the Iran-contra affair. … Roberts’s memos on contra-related issues reveal a cautious lawyer who consistently sounded alarm bells about appearances and who urged compliance with the letter and spirit of the law. It this why Matt Drudge was reporting this morning that the Democrats did not show up for today’s confirmation hearing? Are they too busy?
