What a great place is America. We can choose to pray in the church of our choice, or not pray at all. We can vote in secret for whomever we choose. We can even hold office or run as a candidate in the political party of our choosing — except if we happened to be born the “wrong” race. All races and national origins are permitted in all political parties, with one exception. Blacks are not permitted to be Conservatives or Republicans.

It is not the Republicans who are excluding them. It is Liberals and Democrats who will not allow a black person to freely associate as a Conservative or Republican. How do they accomplish this? By old time “Jim Crow” style terror! We all know the names and published images that have been applied to Colin Powell and Condi Rice who have had the audacity to serve as high cabinet officials in the Republican Bush administration.

How many people could endure the demeaning assaults that are being perpetuated upon Maryland’s highest black office holder, Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele. He has been pelted with Oreo cookies while speaking in public and called “Sambo” by Democrats. A Democrat web log has doctored a newspaper image (see this one at this WaPo article), turning him into a black-faced minstrel character. It was posted by Steve Gilliard on his Blogspot web log “The News Blog”. Apparently, WaPo found the racist depiction of Michael Steel and required that Gilliard remove it. Telling it is that not one Democrat, neither white nor black, had found the image to be offensive or had complained. No one objected either to Steve Gilliard’s description of the highly educated Mr. Steele as “Simple Sambo”.

“I’s Simple Sambo and I’s running for the Big House” from Steve Gilliard of “The News Blog”

How Racist Can Democrats Be? (includes original black-face image). Michelle Malkin writes that it is “THE VILE BILE WE HAVE TO PUT UP WITH” and “exactly the kind of unhinged liberal hatred and bigotry against minority Republicans I talk about in my book” and she quotes The Washington Times of today:

Black Democratic leaders in Maryland say that racially tinged attacks against Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele in his bid for the U.S. Senate are fair because he is a conservative Republican.

Such attacks against the first black man to win a statewide election in Maryland include pelting him with Oreo cookies during a campaign appearance, calling him an “Uncle Tom” and depicting him as a black-faced minstrel on a liberal Web log.

Operatives for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) also obtained a copy of his credit report — the only Republican candidate so targeted.

But black Democrats say there is nothing wrong with “pointing out the obvious.”
