Because His Father Is A National Politician, Don’t Condemn His “Flying High in a Prius”.
A 24-year-old adult male is caught driving on the San Diego Freeway in California at speeds of 100 mph, under the influence of the illegal substance marijuana, and presumably under the influence of four prescription drugs for Attention Deficit Disorder found in his vehicle, and we bloggers are chided not to write about it because the suspected drunk driver is the son of a powerful politician. Oh yeah? What if the politician’s son had crashed and burned, killing innocent bystanders along with himself, would it still be unseemly to call attention to his lawbreaking? What kind of blogging standards are these?
“I know that some bloggers are having fun with this, and I don’t mean to be too critical of my friends, but it’s at the same level as the attacks on Jenna and Barbara Bush. We may dislike Al Gore’s policies and sanctimony, but that shouldn’t apply to his son. His misfortunes tell us nothing about his father’s policy or sanctimony, and as an adult, Al III answers for himself. Attacking Gore through his son amounts to a cheap shot.
“To the extent that the younger Gore broke the law and endangered people, he should be prosecuted and punished in accordance with the law and precedent of California. Let the folks in California deal with it.” Leave Him Alone
“Let the folks in California deal with it. Leave Him Alone.” CASE CLOSED! Fast forward a short two days into the future and the very same blogger is wanting to jail the mother of another drunk driver, whose parents apparently have no political connections. “Where’s The Mother of this Drunk Driver?” This blogging double standard is a bit much for Kerfuffles to ignore. And BTB, refresh my memory. When was it that Barbara and/or Jenna Bush were arrested for drunken driving or caught under the influence of marijuana? For some reason, I just cannot remember those events.
