In a country originally settled by religious extremists from Europe, there are apparently Americans who are espousing the same type of hatred of other Christian religions that raged after the Protestant Reformation centuries ago. Who are these religious bigots and what is the religion they hate so?

These religious bigots are “America Haters.” Kerfuffles proclaims this to be fact because the religion they hold with hatred in their hearts is the only truly American-made religion. The founders of Mormonism, and a large number of present-day American Mormons are literal descendants of the Pilgrims and Puritans who settled New England in the early 1600s. The children and grandchildren of those original settlers in Massachusetts had religious dissent imprinted into their DNA, as in very short order they began joining up with the Baptists and other outlaw Protestant denominations. As generations passed some of the “wild ones” left the Methodists and Baptists to became followers of the brand new Christian religion of Joseph Smith and Brigham Young. Both Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint leaders, Smith and Young, were themselves descendants of Massachusetts’ early Separatist founders.

Robert Novak writes about this religious bigotry in the Washington Post of today.

If you are one of these religious bigots, you need to ask yourself why. Is this bigotry taught in your “so-called” Christian church? When I was a little child, I remember the religious bigotry that was abroad in the land then. Even though I had never heard of the Latter-day Saint church nor the Mormons, I observed religious bigotry directed against Jews, of course, as they were not even Christians. However, the most intense bigotry was directed against the Catholic church, that is the “original” Christian church of Jesus Christ. The bigotry in those days was from other “so-called” Christian churches. Today, those same churches have deigned to co-exist with Judaism and Catholicism and now it is Mormonism they rail against, claiming it not to be Christian.

In reality, if you are one of these religious bigots, my educated guess is that you have been taught said bigotry by your preacher, pastor, minister or whatever title you give to the head of your congregation. These religious leaders are intensely jealous of the Mormons’ success in proselytizing and converting members into their religion. Even more galling to these Protestant leaders is that the Mormon church has no paid clergy.

That’s right folks. NO PAID CLERGY! Just like in the time of Jesus. And because of this, you have been taught lies about the Mormons; you have been taught to hate the Mormons; you have been turned into a religious bigot by your own “so-called” Christian church. To sum up: It’s all about the MONEY; money that some Christian churches fear losing to the LDS Church.
