Devils Tower

On June 14, 1777, the Continental Congress approved the design of a national flag. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a presidential proclamation declaring June 14th as Flag Day. Since then, Americans have commemorated the adoption of the Stars and Stripes by celebrating June 14th as Flag Day.

The Battle Hymn of the Republic is America’s liberation song. It was written in 1861, during America’s War Between the States, which brought the end of slavery, but also brought the deaths of more young soldiers than any war in our history. This sacred song expresses the spirit that has historically motivated America to lash out against tyrants and oppressors. "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" was sung at the funerals of Winston Churchill and Ronald Reagan, and at the memorials for the victims of 9/11 in Washington, New York and London. The definitive version, linked here, is sung by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in language from the Old Testament, the Jewish scriptures, as translated by King James in the 17th century for the English version of the Christian Bible.

Valorous Woman

Sgt. Leigh Ann Hester fought her way through an enemy ambush south of Baghdad, killing three insurgents with her M-4 rifle to save fellow soldiers’ lives and yesterday became the first woman since World War II to win the Silver Star medal for valor in combat. The 23-year-old retail store manager from Bowling Green, Ky., won the award for skillfully leading her team of military police soldiers in a counterattack after about 50 insurgents ambushed a supply convoy they were guarding near Salman Pak on March 20. Flying Tigers Ace, Pappy Boyington Shot Down! Not by the Japanese this time, but fragged by his own.

What can be more heartbreaking to a Daughter of Revolution than to hear of America’s shining star going down in flames at the trembling hands of some cowardly, still “wet behind the ears”, university kids? How could these pampered young Americans whose freedoms at this very moment are guarded by better Americans than they are, shun the memory of a heroic Medal of Honor winner, a Marine Corps officer who spent two years as a war prisoner of the Japanese, who risked his life again and again to save liberty for America and Europe? The alma mater of Colonel Pappy Boyington has repudiated a memorial to him. Will America survive this shameless generation of shallow ignorami at universities across the land, such as those uneducated student leaders at the University of Washington?

In a published piece from 18 February 2006, “Get Thee Behind Me, Pappy Boyington”, the author states that U-Dub “Student Senate Slams ‘Evil’ War Hero”.

Student senator Jill Edwards “questioned whether it was appropriate to honor a person who killed other people.” She added that the student leaders “didn’t believe a member of the Marine Corps was an example of the sort of person UW wanted to produce.” Another student sneered “Too many monuments commemorate white men.” Jon Lee said he “didn’t want to see a campus inundated with memorials.” Student Mikhail Smirnoff strived for magnanimity by commenting that “those who fought in WWII were heroes” unlike, he added, those who fight in Iraq. Director of Student Senate Operations Karl D. Smith thought he was going for the high ground when he wrote “How do we decide who is and is not deserving? We also are home to civil rights leaders such as Gordon Hirabayshi and a major contributor in the eradication of smallpox William Foege, and the Nigerian statesman who worked for peace Alex Ekwueme.” These are what pass for U-Dub values today. Fairness - If Alex Ekwueme of Nigeria was not worthy of a Medal of Honor, then why should upstart Pappy be rewarded for winning one? Thank you Washington state parents and taxpayers for the values you are instilling in your progeny.

Who was Gregory “Pappy” Boyington? Although the students have belittled his being white and rich, he was neither. Of native Sioux and white ancestry, he grew up hard scrabble, something few of the disrespectful U-Dubers have ever experienced. His mother worked as a switchboard operator and Pappy parked cars at school and worked in the Idaho mines in the summer to pay for his aeronautical engineering education.

The guy who writes the immensely popular liberal blog, “Daily Kos” has found an old time, red-blooded patriot that he likes. Believe it or not, the man who wrote that American contractors working in Iraq deserved to be murdered by terrorists, has taken a shine to our own Virginian, Patrick Henry.

Yes, it was liberal darling Daily Kos, Markos Moulitsas Zúniga himself, who penned these words while gloating over the brutal murders of four American citizens who were working as civilian contractors in Fallujah, Iraq: “I feel nothing over the death of merceneries (sic). They aren’t in Iraq because of orders, or because they are there trying to help the people make Iraq a better place. They are there to wage war for profit. Screw them.

Yesterday found Kos writing glowingly of our Virginia hero, Patrick Henry:

“When our nation was founded, we had men of real character and courage fighting for their nascent America, one in which liberty and freedom trumped the authorative (sic) tendencies of the monarchy. Patrick Henry gave words to those efforts: ‘Give me liberty or give me death!’

Kos probably thinks that because Patrick Henry did not take up arms during the American Revolution, that he must have been the Democrats’ kind of patriot. Well think again, Kos and the rest of you lily-liver, lame liberals. Patrick Henry literally risked his very neck with the words he ranted against our enemy. He was as much a warrior as anyone with a musket, and he would have been strung up by the British far quicker than any uniformed enlistee.

Hear Patrick Henry’s famous words reenacted; listen to the rallying cries of that great God-fearing Virginian and decide for yourself if anyone at “Daily Kos” would ever agree with such fiery rhetoric, preached at Saint John’s Church in Richmond, Virginia. Before Henry ever arrived at the phrase about liberty and death, he shouted “WE MUST FIGHT!” and he repeated, “WE MUST FIGHT“, calling upon the GOD of HOSTS!

Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death (audio)

P.S. If you are a Liberal, or a Democrat, I implore you to please listen to the words of our great founding father Patrick Henry, and perhaps you will be moved to join the right side of this, our generation’s, historic battle before it is too late to save your body and soul. UPDATE 3/27/2006: “Expose the Left” writes that Markos Moulitsas of The Daily Kos is a communist and has the video from CNN’s Reliable Sources to back him up. Hmm …

From “Two Babes and a Brain “This Will Make You Sick…”

During our visit to Walter Reed, we all piled into a room of a young soldier who had just come out of surgery. There was also a card from a child … a get well card … the handwriting looked like it was from a child in the third to fourth grade. Here’s what it said….

Dear Soldier,
Have a great time in the war.
And have a great time dieing in the war.
From,
Miguel Gallier
P.S. Die

(there were bullet holes drawn around the word “Die”)

Charmaine at “Reasoned Audacity” has the picture of the letter posted. While there, please cast a vote for her blog as she has been nominated for “Best of the Top 501 - 1000 Web Logs Awards”. If you haven’t heard - December 15th is “Thank a Soldier Week”.

Just as Low as their mantra of “No WMD - Bush Lied” will take them. Hello Beelzebub.

Grey Eagle at “A Female Soldier’s Story” had been posting tributes to fallen soldiers on her web log from her station with the army in Iraq. She believed so strongly in freedom of speech that, at her own expense, she provided forums for those opposed to her views to discuss their reasons and points of views. Needless to say, she did not receive the respect that was her due. Her computer software was hacked so that when she types the tributes to her fallen comrades in arms, what appears on her web site is “you have been hacked….Bush lied…”.

Just today while Vice President Cheney was giving a speech, CNN place a big X across his face - their form of “hacking”. Today, when I came upon this statement at a web log I felt that it was perhaps a bit harsh: “Why Every American Should Hate the Democrat Party”. Now I think I understand.

The Right Place has more about Grey Eagle. Michelle Malkin has the image and more; Political Teen has the video.
